Starting this week, students will be expected to turn in a weekly reading log. I am noticing that even with ample time to read in class, students are still struggling to finish their journals. I also noticed that MAPS scores did not improve the way that I would like them to. After asking a few students in class if they read, I realized that most students are not reading at home. My hope is that with ample time in class, and with ample time at home that comprehension, fluency, and time-management improves. To me, this is not home work. I am not sending students home with an assignment you need to help them complete. I just need someone to verify that they are reading at home. They need to be reading the Lexile Level book they selected from the library. Thanks for your support.
Look at the Lit Circle Packet. I want you to pick one item to think about before you read Mission to Mars and our other Step-Reads. Then construct a journal about your ideas. Look at Lit Circle Journal Sentence Frame. How did I summarize the text? What questions did I ask? For each Lit Circle I would like you to journal about the book or Step-Read after your read it. We then will have dicussions about our short stories/books every Friday. Every Thursday you will have all of LA to work on your journals and documents to get ready for our Literature Circles. You must choose a book to read for pleasure before the 17th of January. January 20th will be our first Literature Circle where we discuss our books.
