I have decided to give 50% credit, or an F, for every missing assignment unless that assignment is plagiarized. A zero has so much impact on a student's grade. A 50% is still an F, but it does not destroy a student's grade.
That being said, StudentVUE may be a little difficult to understand. I will try to help you understand here. If your student never turned in an assignment, then they received a 4/8 on that assignment. They are still missing the assignment. If I give them a zero, then they plagiarized; and you would be contacted regardless. I just don't feel comfortable giving eleven year olds zeroes when they are transitioning to middle school. Obviously, they still need to do the work to earn a D, or a C, or a B. or an A. I think this sets them up for turning the corner. I want them to be successful. I don't want them to be frustrated and checked out this early in their academic careers.
